what would i do differently in the next project?

i think that when looking at what i would do next time to create another production i think that there is many things that i would change but also a lot of this that i would keep the same.  for example i would do a much different story line although i did enjoy aspects of it i would like to create a very vibrant and realist drama with certain aspect of comedy interlinked in with it.

what would i keep the same? i think that i would like to keep the same camera style in the next project because i enjoyed the way that it captured the scene and shot in a way that made the scene look more meaningful.

what did i least enjoy doing

i would have to say that i least enjoyed editing the production as i felt that it was like cutting to pieces what you have created and what you wanted to bring to an audience.

what did i enjoy most doing

filming was probably the mot enjoyable aspect of creating the production because we got to play around with different angles and how we wanted to make the film look.

production company worlde

as a production company creating a wordle is very simple but is very affective when trying to get a message across to the audience and also telling the audience what the film is going to be about

Reactions to our film

After the opening sequence

after our two minute production of the opening sequence the setting if the film would stay almost the same for the first half hour or so of the film as the story line of it would be dragging out. also a main reason for keeping the same setting for a long period of time is so that the audience get a feel for how the actor is feeling being stuck in the same environment for a very long time. this creates frustration not only for the actor but also for the audience as they will be able to relate to the actors situation and his mental state of being stuck in the same room.

the new production company

momentum pictures is a very well known and famous production company that we have decided to use in our opening sequence.  we have put their logo in the begining of the opening sequence due to the fact it is a veey well known brand and people may favour theyre production and therefore will like the film tht we have created

taking out my production company

after much consideration about using my production company in the opening sequence we have decided not to use the production company.  although this is unfortunate for me it is better for the production team that we don't use it. instead of using that we have gone with a professional company that is very well know.

official film title

this is the official and final design for the film title. we have chose to use the name 'a box of tears' due to  one of the shots in the opening sequence that shows a certain aspect of significance.  the logo was also hand drawn and which i think ads to the rustic and independent affect of the film as it is very basic and there is no hidden method of creating the title.  in conclusion we are very happy with the design and how it fits in the opening sequence.

the team together

this is a very outdated image of our, editor producer and camera as we couldn't find a recent image of Joe Peagam.  he was a very important part of the production as he is vert technical with the editing side of our production
This is a image of our second actor and producer Harley Francis. he was also a very important part in the production of the opening sequence as he was also an actor in the film
This is a picture of the main actor and myself Jack Pilditch. as the main actor in the production i like to think that i was important to the sequence as without me there wouldn't have been a actor.
and finally our director and  costume designer Charlie Tossel is also a main actor but is not shown in the opening sequence due to the story line as he appears later on in the film as the main enemy.

film self evaluation: could i have done better?

self evaluation can be a very productive exercise as long as your honest about your own performance and i think that i could have done something differently to improve the production. this is all down to the planning and organization skills of creating the film as if we had set out how we was going to work and what time. although we did have a production schedule, if honest we did not stick the schedule as much as we possibly could have which did cause communication problems between the filming crew.

another thing that i could have improved on is getting into character quicker for the filming.  although in my defense i have not acted before and was put on the spot to do it.

film self evaluation: what went well

in the next thew posts i am going to be asking myself weather i could have done anything better to improve the production if so what. i am also going to be looking at what i thought went well in the production.

when looking at what went well i think that there are many things and aspects of the film that ran very smoothly. one of the mains things i believe is the timing that it took to actually create the film as it only took around two hours to catch all of the shots and scenes that we wanted too. although it is only a opening sequence i think that it has a very good standard and that it would lead in to a very good film. one great thing about this opening sequence is that it doesn't give too much away to the audience.

in conclusion to this i think that the filming stage of the production was the best part of the creation as it ran very smoothly and quickly. i also very much enjoyed creating the film being the main actor myself.

Sundance film festival interview

as a massively influential actor and director when he speaks about the independent film industry it is very interesting to see what he has to say about the situation and the industry.  therefore i have uploaded this video because i can relate to it greatly in the creation of my film and how i can reflect on the process of creating my film.

evaluation question 7 plan

in this answer i think that we need to take a very wide approach to answering it and look at the the wider picture of creating a film and look at how we have used our skills to create a film that is good enough to produce something we wanted too.  furthermore i think we need to talk about how we have learned how to set ourselves in a position with the camera which allowed us to get a great shot and also how to use the editing software to help us make the best film possible.

planning for evaluation question 6

personally when looking at what i have learned from the constant progression to know is how to be comfortable around the camera and how to use the other software to its full potential.  this was very import in the process of making our film due to the amount of skill needed or the editing and the camera work when filming.

the planning for evaluation question 5

i have chosen to take much detail and interest in the evaluation question 5 as i believe that it is one of the most challenging questions of the seven.  From a planning aspect of the question i am trying to set out what i am going to talk about in the answer of my question.

planning the answer for evaluation question 4

As we discussed in the group our main target audience has changed a fair amount with regards to the age and gender of the Target audience. an example of this is that we have changed it from the age of 16 up to around the age of 20 due to the results of survey.  this is what i think is the most important thing to talk about in our answer.

answering evaluation question 3

distribution of our media product is a very important aspect of how the audience sees the film and what they think about it.  for example our initial idea of producing the film to an audience for them to view it is by using a independent film distributer and i think that this is very important to mention in our answer.  not only so that people know we are using a independent film distributer but to also advertise the independent film industry.

answering evaluation question 2

Our film has represented certain social groups through the way that it has been presented. in our answer i think that we need to talk about the setting of the opening sequence and how we have sued props and clothing to influence the audience into relating to the actors and surroundings.

answering evaluation question 1

when looking at question one i believe that it is one of the most difficult to answer because of the wide variety of possible answers.  i think that i am going to look at the way my film as challenged convention by the actors being very young but also targeting at a very mature audience. furthermore the fact it is about a superhero but on a extremely small budget challenges conventions of real media products because the stereotypical superhero movie is created by massive blockbuster film companies.

the shooting schedule

shooting schedule was a very import part of the production as this gave us as a production team a guideline and how a great structure to go along with.  i used a website that i have previouslyt used in the past called www.getrevising.com this enables me to set out a schedule where time slots are long enough to get work done and get the opening sequence completed.

here i have attached an image of what the schedule looked like and as you can see it lasted about a week. Included in this schedule was also the editing time which took longer than the actual filming of the sequence

Final Production

choice of the production music.

the musical side of a production is also very important to create a mood and setting within a scenario in the set.  music also creates clear representation of what may happen in the film later on with regards to its genre.

selecting a piece of music for my opening sequence proved to be fairly difficult due to the legal aspect of using music that has a license and you need to pay to use on your own project and production.
this website was very useful in helping me select the correct music type for my film. as you can see from the print screen the selection tools on the side of the page enables me to shorten the list down to only a small selection of what soundtrack we want in the background of the film

Character costumes

for the main character we have chosen to use very slob-like dress code.  walking around in his bed cloths it is a clear representation of how he isnt the most lively person and is clearly wanting to be left alone in his own company

we have also decided to add in a pair of dark jeans to the main actor as it connotes that although in his own house he still isn't that conformable in his surroundings.

list of props used

COSTUME:Dressing Gown
                    Sun Glasses
                    Long Coat
                    Dark Jeans
                    Black T-Shirt

PROPS:Box
                   Frame
                   Vodka
                   Light
                   Book
                  Toy
we have decided to use these props due to not only the limited budget but also what we thought would represent and fit in with the story line.  furthermore the majority of these props are very dated and adds to the affect of our SI-FI genre

final actor- salamander

the final main actor in the film is called salamander.  he is not only a very shady character but the character author lloyd is hunting down and trying to find.  as you can see in the image we have too inspiration for the character ' Bain' from batman as we felt that this is along the same lines as our story line.  Although not in the opening sequence he still plays a massive part in the film. Due to the fact he doesn't feature in the opening sequence i believe that this adds a fact of surprise to he film.

another actor- author lloyd

the main character for the film is called Author Lloyd.  played by myself we have tried to create a character that is clearly not in the right state of mind and is reflecting on his past experiences pithing working for the government and how that has now affected the way that he looks at life. with the character sitting in the dark set this reflects his mood and the way that he strolls around in a depressed fashion.

Monday 15 April 2013

the actor- the sideman

our first actor in the film is a very mysterious character the kicks off the story line and gives the opening sequence a cliff hanger to end on.  as he approaches author's door with a package for him he disappears into thin air which adds to the story line of how it is based around a vigilante super hero that has retired from his old ways and is now in his recuperation stage. the characters stage name is 'the side man' as the way he acts and suddenly appears on the side of the shot demonstrates how he personality works.

the final logo.

So this is it. The final design has changed it colour scheme and i much prefer how it now looks.  I have changed it from just plain blue to a black and gold contrast that is sure to catch the eyes of the audience. furthermore the gold in the logo represent that the production company produce on the best films that they can make with the best meaning.

asking the class their thoughts.

when i was creating my log asking the class and other people what they thought of the logo was very important to me as it wouldn't be me that would be looking at the logo it would be the audience.  With this in mind i ask a number of people what number logo i should use and why.  6 out of the ten said i should have used number 1 and the rest of the people split between 2 and 3.  Although this helped me to choose; i wanted to know why they wanted number one as the logo.  After gathering the answers why they wanted that one, the majority of them said that it was different and memorable.  it was flowing well but also had a mix between thin lines and blocks of colour but i do need to change the colour.

finals design choice

this image above is the choices for my production company logo.  i have chosen to use these designs as i like the simplistic features of the logo.  On the other hand once i have chosen a design i am going to change the color scheme of it so that it tell the audience more about the company and is more of a representation of what the company prides itself on.

cutting the logos down

after thinking about which logo i think is the best amd wpild look the best after being profesionally made; i think that they all have certain qualitys about each and everyone.

After much consideration i have chosen to go for the design of number 3.  Although this is the case i still think that i can change the logo slightly to improve its look.

the rough logo designs

these are my fist designs for my logo.  i have gone with the simplistic aspect as that is a one of my specifications when looking at the new compnay and the new logo.  as you can see it is based round my intials; J and P.  with the the fact it is a production company aswell that also needs to be incorparated.

the logo research

logos for a business is very important for recognistion and representation of the brand.  It is also very importnat so that they can advertise to world there brand and products so that the public are talking about the company.  I have selelcted a few of world famous logos to have a look at so that i can get an idea of how a brand is affective with catching the audiences eye and staying in mind.

initial production company name and logo

I have decided to use my own production as a way of producing my film. This decision was made based on the fact that the majority of the production companies out there today do not have the same targets as i do. I want to create a film with a meaning and not just to make money.

With this in mind; creating the production company from scratch is obviously a huge task and is going to take a long time to get up to standard of the other professionals but a name and a logo for the it i think is a pretty good place to start.

Simplicity is a big thing for me so a name and logo that revolves around a simplistic design and name is the best thing for me. After all this is a representation of what my company will create... simple films with big meanings.

new tasks

at this point in my blog i have seccured the basis of my film and i have also got a good idea of what i am trying to create in my production.  on the other hand i still have a lot more to do as final details on my blog are concerned such as;
-the casting of my film
-production company logo and name
-film title
these are just a few things that i need to focus on in the next week and i would be very pleased to have them finished by the end of this week.

location

location for a film is also as important as the story line. can you imagine if your film was set on a family that wanted to move from the city so they moved to new york! just would not work would it. So seeing that my main character is as far out of the public eye as possible.  i believe that i have found the perfect location from an arial view anyway.  it is out of the way and only a few shops and other building to be associated with.  furthermore it also has the stereotypical texas horror film look to it with the thick woods near by and large empty landscape. Perfect.

the main characters actor

the main actor has to fit the characters specifications. my main characters name is author lloyd and he is a very fragile and aged character.  looking rough he has appeared to forget about his physical apperance with his rough beard growing or and his hair getting long, he is not the trimmed young athlete is clearly used to be.

a rugged looking actor such as Ray Winstone is ideal for the job as he is fairly aged but can also play a variety of rolls in the film industry. ranging from comedy to the very serious and controversial action film, The Sweeney.

blog feedback 13/2/2013

i have received my first feedback on my coursework.

W.W.W-
-in all my post there was a lot of detail and specific information
-some good use of creativity such as  go-animate
-good  choice of information chosen to comment on. for example the actors opinion.

E.B.I
-Need more post
-dont rely on the programs like go-animate and prezi try to use different ways of presenting
-work at a faster pace and do more research on other films

With this feedback in mind it has really helped me to be able to think about how i can improve my blog and get a higher grade.  For example getting more post on to my blog is very import if i want to get a higher grade due to expressing and researching more is very important.

Audience Research

audience research is very important thing for a film as by altering a film towards or away from a specific age group, gender or race could have huge affects on the amount of people going to see the film and having opinions on the film.  this also appeals to the type of genre that the film has. for example and action film such as die hard would have a huge target audience of middle aged men due to the way the film is set out and what it is based on.  furthermore they would not expect and 17 year old girl to go and watch the film as stereotypically they are not interested in fast car chases and huge explosions.

action audience

the action genre has a large target audience as boys from the age of around 16 like to watch the explosions and destruction of building built in with car chases creates a film that a male audience can not resist to watch.  although this is the case the genre has a hard time creating new idea to excite the audience rather than just showing the same story line to a film which would kill of the genre due to it becoming boring to watch and predictable.  In the films there are always certain characters such as; the  hero, the vilan, the sexy actress and usually it is set in down town USA.

Comedy Drama

comedy drama has probably the largest target auience as they use humour to entice the audience and make them want to watch more of the film. with this in mind there is also a lot more ideas that production companies can go with with regards to the story line of the film.  For example a simple domestic situation in everyday life or they could go as far out as an extraterrestrial coming to earth from outer space and creating a funny scenario.  the target audience of a comedy film is very varied in line with the actual nature of the film.  For example a film like the imbertweeners is aimed at a very young audience with the age bracket of around about 17 as it has a very immature scenario narrative.

Horror/Thriller

Horror and thriller films have a very specific audience with regards to what age group of people got to watch this genre of film.  Usually the young audience are more interested in going to watch the films as they are looking for the excitement and thrill of the cinema, where as a older audience may not enjoy the narrative of the film and may find it very repetitive and obvious how the film is going to pan out.

in conclusion to this i believe that my film will cover the majority of genres apart from the comedy aspect of film as it is a production about redemption of past and how a ex-vigulanty feels about how his past is now affecting his life and what he has lost.  I am aiming to create this film with deep meaning of you don't know what you have until you have lost it and this is what you ill see in the film.

production context- choosing the production company 2

warner bros is my seconds choice of t film production company for my own film.  i have chosen this as one of my options as it has some great experience in the film industry.  as it was found; April 23 1923 they have made a huge amount of films that have been extreme successful and have got them to where they are today.  Just like my another one of my production company choices (big talk production); warner started out as a small but truth filled company that produced what thy believe not only would make a profit but also something that they enjoyed.  As the four brothers who's created the company grew in the company more and more investors where interested in the company.  To this date they have made about 12 billion dollars in revenue.  This is of course a massive amount of money that they have to play with in created big blockbuster films for the worlds film industry.  From the majority, Polish background of the company they added a new competator to the world film industry.  with them coming in to the worlds public eye this also gave them a chance to create bigger and better films as they was getting more and more publicity from the audiences.  Furthermore with this in mind, with more publicity created by the main film media industrys such as the british film and also hollywood; thismade it a lot easier to distribute the films that they have created.

from the begining warner bros has always looked promising to become a huge success due to wide variety of films that they have created.  they create films of all different genres which help to widen their audience for all different ages and genders.

although they have got a lot of experience in the industry and are extremely good at what they do when creating films, they are not quiet what i am looking for to create my film.  this is because i want a independent film company that has more of a meaning to their films rather than just to get the company logo in lights and in the public eye.  in my opinion this would be a main thing for warner just to get in the spotlight and to have another success out of a film rather than express a point of opinion.

production context. choosing the production company 1

production context. big talk productions by jackpilditch on GoAnimate

Animated Presentations - Powered by GoAnimate.

furthermore, this production company play on the simple british comedy that creates this type of market that feel inclined to go and watch their films as it would be in a sense loyal to the british film industry and the obvious that they find it funny.  comedy is the majority genre that Nira Park's film company create as it is a personal chose and they are not run by a hollywood film company that tells them what to create.

when looking at weather this is the right production company for my film; it is clear to see that there are some certain elements of how this would be the right choice for me with regard to how it is a independent film company that produce what they want and not what they are told.  this is the kind of film i am looking to create. one with a voice and meaning and not that just is full of explosion and fictional superhero.  on the other hand, although it does tick certain boxes for me the fact that the main point of the company is to create comedy films for British cinema is not what i am looking for.  as my film has a genre of action-drama, Big talk may not be very experienced in creating a heart felt drama piece of film that has a deeper meaning.

film research- actors opinions

This video that i found of Paddy Considine is very interesting because it helps me to get a feel for how the film was created.  He expresses his feelings towards the film and how the relationship with him and the director has built to what it is.  it is clear to see by watching the film that the relationship that these two share is expressed in the film as dead mans shoes is a very free flowing film that is also a very different and against the norm production.  As stated in the video you can here the voice of the director is coming through the film and is expressed in the film this adds also a very personal film to the film.  in my opinion i think that is the most important thing about independent films as due to the extremely low budget they has to have some sort of unique selling point to an audience and a personal messag seems to be the most important.  furthermore i believe that i hollywood blockbusters you very rarely see the same extent of personal messages coming across from the films. hollywood films only filled with explosions and made up mythical creatures isn't much of a good message to me, don't you think?

Paddy also talks about how they personal experience in the environment they lived and how that affected the way that the created the film; for example the mise en scene and the settings of the would have a great effect on the way the film is portrayed to the audience.  By the way that they pay great attention to detail not only in the way that the actor acts but also in the surrounds.  this can be seen in the run down environment that the film is set in and it connotes that the mental state of the main character is very dark and maybe stressed out and worried about the past coming back to haunt him.  although he is out of the battle ground his brother in the film is stuck in one and the dark skies turn to a storm as he snaps and changes his mental state in to danger!

to extend on that this clip is very helpful in regards to how the film should be made with passion and with a message that can be subconsciously seen throughout.  starting with the dark and dreary surroundings Paddy Considine has created the feels ethos from the first shot and that is very similar to how i would like to present mine to the audience.

in conclusion to this; as said in previous post about the opening sequences, they are, in my opinion the first minuet or even first shot of the films are used to capture not only the audiences attention but also their imagination as they are picturing what the rest of the film is going to be like.  weather is may be a bright and cheery film like 'Stepbrothers' or a dark and disturbed film such as 'Dead man's shoe's" this is the main purpose of a opening sequence.

action genre films

the film genre of action is also one of the most popular, not only to the viewer but also to production companies and investors due to the fact it is a big money maker and very exciting to watch and create. the film that i will be later on making during the course may consist of the action genre and therefore i thought it was a good idea to gather some of my favorite action scenes. as said before in the previous mood board analysis the opening sequence is vital to engage the audience and usually in an action opening sequence there is some sort of fighting or action orientated piece of acting. by doing this in the first few minuets this enable the audience to get in to the mood for what they are embark on which hopefully is a watching a great action packed film full of explosions and guns. a further stereotype is the thought that the action genre is dominantly a male type of film and so therefore there would be a scene where the male audience can relate to in the either the setting or maybe even the fantasy type dream that they themselves are able to put a cape on and become a super hum a. to extend on that another technique used to engage the male audience is to play on the male gaze thought and this usually consist of a young women in no more than a pair of six inch heels, tight denim shorts and maybe a extremely short top. yet again just to get the audience interested in watching the film further.

Monday 11 February 2013

comedy mood board

as you can see i have selected a wide variety of images from man different films. although they are mostly all different films they all share the same genre in film; comedy.as part of my task i have looked at the different options of types of film and for me; my favourite genre of film as i find it easy watch and create a social event out of. the opening sequences of comedy films are also very different to the other genre such as horror. for example when you compare the two; horror stereotypically would have a dark opening sequence that might be set in a place such as outer texas where many horror films are set and filmed. on the other end of things, comedy films are very different using bright colours and upbeat music to be able to set a happy and cheerful feel for the film. in my opinion i believe that the opening sequence is the most import thing in a film to be able to grab the viewer immediately and engage with the audience from the outset and throughout.

Tuesday 5 February 2013

mad men opening sequence is also a very short one but also is a very different one compared to the rest as the actors come before everything else during the credits.  from 00.03 to 00.11 is the names of actors and this come connote to show that they are they most important thing the film. At 00.12 a guest star credit is shown on the screen and stays there fro a lengthy period of time taking the opening sequence to 00.16. at this point the casting by credit come on the screen and then after this at 00.17 the editor is shown. 00.18 shows the director of photography and then after that at 00.19 is the production designer.  although it is fairly late the producers credit is at 00.22 and this could translate in tot he fact that the actors are more important than the producers.  00.24 is the executive producer and then at 00.30 is the actual title of the film.  the fact that the film title comes after everything else shows that the people that are involved in the film are more important than the film title.  the names that are involved in the film are also used to promote the film.  quickly after that at 00.33 the credit for the creator is shown and then finally at 00.34 is the director.  the director is the last credit and then it goes straight in to the film.

Opening Sequence - Wall-E

Wall-e is probably the most simplistic and short opening sequence around today. Pixar is the first thing we see in the film and the traditional jumping light lamp is a clear representation of the production company.  this stays on the screen from the first seconds all the way too 00.12.  after that is a pitch black screen with a few what look like stars in the background. also there is some music coming in to the film that is quiet soft and appealing to a young audience.  at 00.16 the distribution company credits comes on screen and this company is Walt Disney Pictures.  this credits stays on the screen until 00.19 and then another scene of space is shown and this second shot of space concretes the idea that the film maybe spaceship of another planet type of film.  already at 00.21 the audience has a bit of an idea what the film is going to consist of.  at 00.26 the production company; Pixar animation studio.  this is the last opening title and after this it goes straight in to the rest of the film. although the opening credits last for only 25 seconds after this the opening sequence actually last for 1.36. as the music continues throughout the film it also continues to sound even more like an old track from the post war time of 1930.  this is quiet ironic to the fact that the film is actually set in the future in outer space and the time difference between the two is worlds apart.  What seems like the camera is in fact CGI

Opening Sequence Analysis- girl with the dragon tattoo

girl with the dragon tattoo

The girl with the dragon tattoo is a very traditional film opening with the order of the opening credits.
at; 00.05, the production company appears; columbia pics and metro-goldwyn-mayer. The next title that comes to the screen is another production company at 00.09 of the opening credits.  when the film gets to 00.12 this is where we see the first name other than a production company.  the name that is shown is David Fetcher and tell the audience that it is his film.  the fact that up until this point only three credits have comes up could suggest that people need to know that these are very important people in the film industry and are the heart and soul of the film.  At 00.15 the main actor of the girl with the dragon tattoo is shown and the actor is daniel craig.  due to the fact that he is fourth in the line of credit could also connotes his importance to the film.  furthermore this could show that he is more important that the rest of the cast other than the people who come before him.  the opening credit themselves are very dark and the opening image is a pure black screen that is backed up by the fast beat music.  as the music build the scene begins to flash and creates a sense of animosity about the film that is carried on throughout.  After Daniel Craig comes; Rooney Mara which is also a big actress in the film.  up until this point we wouldn't know what the film is called as the title of the film has not yet appeared.  this could prove to the point that the actors and production company mean more to the audience than the actual film.  the title then is shown at 00.21.  as the credits roll on from the point of 00.23 to 1.13 there are the names of the actors and actresses in the film.  1.13 is the point where the casting for the film is shown and it moves on quickly to the costume designer at 1.19.  as the credits begin to speed up and the music intesifies. the fact that teh credits and names of people arent staykng on for a long period of time shows that they are less significent to the film.  At 1.22 co-producers credit comes on the screen and there are a variety of names on at the same time.  furthermore the fact that there are a number of names on the same credits could suggest that each person does not deserve to have their own credit and aren't that important in the film. 1.25 are the sound and 1.28 shows the music.the credits come and go even more quickly with gaps between them of two seconds at 1.30 is the ediitors and the 1.33 is a credit for the production designer, 1.38- director of photography and 1.46 shows the executive producers.  one of the most important in my view of the film comes at 1.50 and its the producer.  this comes after everything else and is very near the end. screen play comes at 2.08 and the director of the film is last with a time of 2.21
